Webinar: Educators Organizing During the Shutdown
Event at a Glance
Date
Hard fights are up ahead for educators, parents, students and our communities- from fighting back against looming budget cuts (and fighting for more funding) to resisting unsafe reopening of schools, it's going to take powerful collective action to defend public education. That has to start with educators talking to each other school by school district by district.
Join Labor Notes and the teacher network UCORE on Tuesday, May 26 at 8pm eastern time for a discussion of ways to organize school by school, with fellow teachers and school employees, with parents and students around immediate issues, and how that organizing can serve as building blocks for future fights. See Labor Notes coverage of educators organizing demands and actions in Milwaukee and Los Angeles, and our general coverage of workers organizing during the COVID-19 shutdown here.
In this meeting we will discuss and hear examples from educators across the U.S. of how educators are:
- Finding common issues
- Bringing people together during the shutdown to discuss and strategize
- Taking creative and collective action during the shutdown
- Discussing how local organizing connects to bigger upcoming fights
We will explore organizing principles and how they apply to our organizing.
Note: This is a call and discussion for rank and file union K12 educators so the discussions will be specific to educators organizing. If that's not you, don't worry! We have many other exciting webinars and meetings coming up. Stay in touch for future meetings and webinars.
