We learned with sadness that Jerry Tucker died this morning. We will be posting a fuller remembrance in the coming days, but wanted to share the following video from the 2012 Labor Notes conference. Jerry received a Troublemaker's Award for his lifetime of rabble-rousing, and below is what we wrote in the program book to honor his many achievements, together with his video acceptance.

A lackluster debate performance is not the worst disappointment of union members' last four years. Better choices won't happen without a thorough shake-up of labor's approach to electoral politics.

New York Bakery Workers Fight Closure, Occupy Store

Workers at the New York City bakery Hot and Crusty got a jump start on Labor Day this year, storming one of the chain’s Manhattan locations this afternoon—and refusing to leave.

The occupation came 11 days after owners announced they were closing the 63rd Street store. Workers condemned the closure as retaliation for union organizing.

On May 23 a majority of the workers voted to form an independent union, the Hot and Crusty Workers Association.
