Alexandra Bradbury, Editor Al Bradbury joined the staff in 2012, after working with hospital workers as a researcher and organizer for Service Employees Local 49 in Oregon. Al edits Labor Notes and covers postal workers and Teamsters. She's also an occasional singer-songwriter. She is based in Seattle.
Keith Brower Brown, Labor-Climate Organizer Keith joined Labor Notes in 2023 to write and organize on workplace transitions driven by climate change, with a focus on building trades and manufacturing. Previously, he organized as an Auto Workers Local 2865 department steward and Unite All Workers for Democracy caucus activist, and worked as a researcher with construction workers, as a college instructor, and on clean energy planning for utilities. Keith is based in Oakland.
Jenny Brown, Assistant Editor Jenny rejoined Labor Notes in 2022, after having worked here from 2010 to 2015. While an AFSCME rank-and-filer in the 1990s, she co-chaired a Labor Party chapter in Gainesville, Florida. She is the author of Birth Strike: The Hidden Fight over Women’s Work (PM Press, 2019). Jenny covers hospitality workers, women workers, and the economy. She is based in our Brooklyn office.
Alex Deane, Operations Coordinator Alex was previously Operations Coordinator for LeftRoots. She enjoys reading, playing music, and working with others to build a better world. She is based in our Brooklyn office.
Joe DeManuelle-Hall, Staff Writer and Organizer Joe has been an organizer with Transport Workers Union Local 100 in New York City, a rank-and-file activist in a Chicago Walmart warehouse, and once upon a time an intern on the Sandy Pope campaign for the Teamster presidency. Since 2018 he works for Labor Notes, where he covers transit workers, municipal and state workers, and rail and logistics workers. He is based in our Brooklyn office.
Dan DiMaggio, Assistant Editor Dan joined Labor Notes in 2015 after working as a researcher for the Operating Engineers in Miami. He covers telecom workers, UE, and the international labor movement. Dan is based in central Pennsylvania.
Luis Feliz Leon, Assistant Editor Luis was already a labor journalist when he joined Labor Notes staff in 2021. He interned at The Nation, Build Up NYC, and 32BJ SEIU, and was a lead organizer at the community organization La Fuente in Queens, New York. Luis's beats include Amazon, interracial and international organizing, auto workers and other manufacturing workers, including steel workers; he is bilingual in Spanish. He is based in our Brooklyn office.
Sarah Hughes, Staff Writer and Organizer Sarah is a longtime Labor Notes collaborator who joined the staff in 2021. She has worked for K-12 and higher education unions and university labor studies programs, and holds a masters in labor studies. Sarah covers health care workers and LGBTQ workers. She is based in our Brooklyn office.
Barbara Madeloni, Staff Writer/Organizer Barbara joined the staff in 2018. As two-term president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, she drew national acclaim for fighting off a well-funded ballot initiative that would have ramped up school privatization. Barbara covers K-12 teachers and higher education workers, and is still based in Massachusetts.
Seán McGovern, Operations Assistant Seán joined the staff in 2024. Seán was previously a UPS package car driver, active in Teamsters Local 804 and Teamsters for a Democratic Union. As a shop steward he organized collective actions over harassment and heat safety, and during the 2023 contract campaign he traveled the country to help members prepare for a potential strike.
Courtney Smith, Organizer Courtney worked on the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign in 2020 as a Black constituency organizer. She has also worked with families who were victims of police brutality, and as an organizer with the Lecturers’ Employee Organization at the University of Michigan. Courtney works with our training team building out our “Race and Labor” workshops and building a Black workers network. She is based in Michigan.
Danielle Smith, Staff Writer/Organizer Danielle joined the staff in 2024. As a labor reporter for the legal news website Law360.com, she was a member and shop steward of the NewsGuild of New York. Later she joined the union staff as a full-time organizer, and worked on strikes at Business Insider and Law360. Danielle is part of our training and events team, and covers K-12 educators, postal workers, and Canada. She is based in our Brooklyn office.
Sindhu Sundar, Communications Organizer Sindhu joined the staff in 2023. She is a seasoned journalist with a decade of legal reporting and labor coverage under her belt, and a contributor to the current resurgence of journalist unionism. She helped to organize and win first contracts in two different newsrooms where she worked, Law360 and Insider. She is based in North Carolina.
Kari Thompson, Staff Writer/Organizer Kari joined Labor Notes staff in 2024 as an experienced labor educator and writer. She got her start in the labor movement as a member of United Electrical Workers (UE) Local 896 in Iowa in 2006. She later joined UE staff as an organizer and then Director of Education and International Strategies. She is based in Pittsburgh.
Natascha Elena Uhlmann, Staff Writer and Organizer Natascha joined Labor Notes in 2024; she covers UNITE HERE, farmworkers, immigrant workers, and the Mexican labor movement. She is a member of the Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee and helped organize the Verso Books Guild. She is bilingual in Spanish, and is based in Philadelphia.
Lisa Xu, Organizer Lisa joined the staff in 2023. As a Harvard graduate student worker she became an organizer with their union, United Auto Workers Local 5118. Then as the staff organizer for the national reform caucus Unite All Workers for Democracy, she was instrumental in organizing for one-member-one-vote and electing reform candidates to union leadership.
